Do you know a high school senior who is preparing to graduate?

It’s a major milestone in every student’s life. They’re getting ready to leave the life they knew in high school and pursue their greater long-term goals. Although exhilarating, there is a healthy amount of nervousness that goes along with graduation. To help support the youth of Camden County in their future goals, the Camdenton Rotary Club is awarding scholarships to 17 students.

One of the McGrath Insurance Group employees, David Vongunten, is the treasurer of the Camdenton Rotary Club. He works first-hand to award this money to the chosen recipients.

About the Camdenton Rotary Scholarship Program

This year, the Camdenton Rotary Club awarded $8,500 in scholarships from four school districts. The goal of providing these students with scholarships to support their higher education endeavors isn’t only about the money. It’s about showing the students that the Camden County community stands behind them, believes in them, and wants to give each person a jumpstart to the next stage in their life.

The scholarship winners are chosen based on a few criteria:

  • GPA
  • Academic Performance
  • School Counselor Recommendation

Each school in the four school districts located in the county receives the criteria. Then, school counselors gather the data and put together their recommendations. Once all the information is received by the rotary club, a committee of peers (made up of four rotary club members) reviews the data and determines the winner.

What You Need to Know About Camdenton Rotary Club

The Camdenton Rotary Club is known for awarding scholarships to local students. Prior to 2009, the club had a contract for the Camdenton license bureau. Through this contract, the rotary club was able to award $40,000 in scholarships. When the license bureau changed hands and was given to a Springfield organization, they were left without revenue to support this program. Now, the scholarship funds come from the rotary’s funds.

Although the rotary might not be able to hand out as much as it once did, the organization is grateful for the ability to show Camdenton students their support by continuing the scholarship program.
