McGrath Insurance Group Employee and Family Honored for Pumpkin Business

By October 2, 2017June 9th, 2020Community

McGrath Insurance Group employee, Melissa Kupfer, and her family have run a successful seasonal business – a u-Pick pumpkin patch in Camden County, Missouri.

MECCA farms is home to a pumpkin patch, corn maze, petting zoo, 150 foot slide, and plenty of photo opportunities. This farm attracts people from all over Camden County, Missouri and beyond to find the perfect pumpkin to carve, eat, or decorate with during the start of the Fall season. In addition to these favorite fall gourds, they also offer corn.

This successful seasonal business is about to enter in their third year and is anticipating the recurrence of their regular flood of business throughout the month of October.

But prior to opening, the Kupfer family has already received honors for their farming talents and business acumen during the Missouri State Fair.

Accolades From the Missouri State Fair

During the 59th annual Missouri Farm Family Day at the Missouri State Fair, McGrath Insurance Group team member and her husband were among some of the families who were honored for their work.

Missouri Farm Family Day is a special celebration at the fair set aside to honor people who are active in agriculture, community, and/or local outreach or extension programs, such as 4-H or FFA.

The entire Kupfer family was in attendance including our very own Melissa Kupfer, an independent insurance agent, her husband Clay, who works in the construction business, and their three daughters, Carley, Annie, and Emily.

The local Farm Bureau and the Camden County Extension Council selected the Kupfer famiily to be this year’s Camden County Farm Family.

About MECCA Farms

When the Kupfer family purchased the 160-acre lot, they had no intention of using it as a pumpkin patch, but after a suggestion from a good friend, they decided to open their new home for business each year.

MECCA stands for the family’s initials (Melissa, Emily, Carley, Clay, and Annie), which is fitting because this is a family business. Everyone and their “crew” put in long hours on the farm preparing the fields for planting. At night, they celebrate their hard work with bonfires and hot dog roasting.

The farm hasn’t come without its fair share of headaches. The family has had to endure through rain, pests, fungus, and weeds. But through it all they’ve come out on top opening a farm that the community loves with activities everyone can enjoy.

This year, they’re proud to offer traditional orange pumpkins alongside Cinderella style pumpkins, yellow, and white pumpkins.
